HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Created in 2008 by CJ Barnes whilst in Macau, Púka Entertainment Productions began its work putting together promotional videos for the various acts at the Venetian Macau and Sands Macao casinos.
In 2010 Púka Entertainment produced an episode of an animated show, titled Super Squad. The show followed a team of inept, government-sponsored superheroes trying to thwart an equally inept group of villains in Las Vegas. Animated entirely by CJ Barnes and featuring voice work from Topher O’Rourke, Sarah Jo Lorraine, and Josh Guerrero, future episodes were planned and written but were never produced.
After a lengthy production hiatus, Púka Entertainment Productions was established again on the Gold Coast, Australia to produce the short film, Hunger - A Short Film, which was completed in 2018 after a 6 day shoot and 3 months of post-production work. The film, which has only just started its journey through the festival world, has already received Official Selections to both Monster Fest 2018 and International Shorts Film Festival.
Púka Entertainment Productions is operated by its Managing Director Klaire Lacota, Finance Director Susie Lacher, and Creative Director CJ Barnes. Working with a small team by design, the aim is to annually produce successful short films, growing the level of production and budget with each project.
Although Púka Entertainment Productions hopes to acquire funding through Screen Queensland and Screen Australia to raise their production capital and grow their production capability, however Hunger - A Short Film’s budget was almost entirely provided through crowd funding. Crowd funders were all acknowledged in the credits of the film as well as had opportunities to get producer credits, artwork, or private viewing opportunities.
